COVID Update: LABTEC Operations During February 2021 Lockdown

Sunday, 28 February 2021

From 6:00am (NZDT) on Sunday 28 February, Auckland began its second lockdown in a month by moving to Alert Level 3 and the rest of New Zealand to Alert Level 2. The lockdown for seven days comes into place as health authorities try to contain a cluster of the more contagious coronavirus variant first identified in the United Kingdom.

Our laboratory remains open for business as usual (BAU), and we are not anticipating any interruptions to our service delivery for the foreseeable future. We are looking forward to continuing to support our clients during these challenging times.

Since March 2020 when NZ government authorities went public with concerns over the disease, we have complied with health authority guidelines and implemented a range of mitigations focused on protecting our staff, clients and the wider community. We wish to remind the community that these protective measures remain in place and we will continue to introduce new measures as and when required.

For more information about Alert Levels, please refer to the Ministry of Health and Unite Against COVID-19 websites.

At 11:59pm (NZDT) on Wednesday 17 February, Auckland moved to Alert Level 2 and the rest of New Zealand moved to Alert Level 1. The Ministry of Health has advised that face masks will be mandatory on public transport until further notice. A further decision about Alert Level changes will be made by Cabinet on Monday, 22 February.

Monday, 15 February 2021

From 11:59pm (NZDT) Sunday 14 February, Auckland will move to Alert Level 3 and the rest of New Zealand will move to level 2 for three days until midnight Wednesday 17 February. The announcement followed confirmation by the Ministry of Health of three new locally acquired COVID-19 cases in the South Auckland suburb of Papatoetoe.

Under the lockdown restrictions, Aucklanders will need to stay home, and should also work from home if possible. Non-essential shops will close, and schools and early childhood centres will only be open to children whose parents cannot work from home.

Laboratory Services Open During Three-day Lockdown

We are paying close attention to these recent COVID developments. During the lockdown, LABTEC will be open, particularly as we remain focused as a supplier for our “essential services” clients.

Whilst our lab remains open, social distancing measures will apply for any people working in or visiting our laboratory – this has included a continued focus on hygiene management at the lab, the set-up of alternative work-from-home (WFH) arrangements for staff who can work from home as per the Government’s guidelines. There has been a guidance in place for contactless deliveries of samples and supplies. Door signage is also in place to assist with protective measures. Please adhere to the directions and guidance provided.
